Admission to the Peabody Museum is free, but school and group visits require reservations.
We are currently only accepting bookings with dates starting after June 13th.
NOTE: Requests need to be submitted at least 3 weeks before your intended visit.
The date and time of your visit must be confirmed by the Museum’s Education Office. Please bring a copy of your confirmation letter on the day of your visit. Unregistered groups may not be accommodated and could be asked to return at another time. The Peabody is wheelchair accessible. Most visitors take 2 to 3 hours to tour the Museum.
The renovated Museum includes the following to accommodate group visits:
- Bus pull-in and drop-off space on Sachem Street. Buses cannot park here.
- A new group entrance on the Sachem Street side of the Museum.
- Dedicated classrooms for programs on the lower level of the Museum.
- A lunchroom which can be reserved for your group.
- Storage space for your gear and lunches.
Students must be accompanied by adult chaperones with a maximum of 8 students to each chaperone.

If you are planning a trip to the museum with a group of 12 or more, you would need to fill out a field trip request form 3 weeks in advance and await confirmation.
For groups that are coming with minor students, there is a REQUIRED 8:1 student to chaperone ratio. Chaperones are to be assigned to a group of 8 students and are to remain with them for the entirety of the visit. This includes the gift shop, outdoor plazas, and galleries.
There is a maximum amount of 100 children/students in each group.
Groups are required to enter through our labeled group entrance on Sachem Street. Groups who attempt to enter through our main entrance will be redirected to our Sachem Street group entrance.
Groups are only allowed entry to the museum when the entire group is present. Sporadic entry is not permitted.
PLEASE NOTE: Workshops are currently only available for students in grades 2nd-8th grade. We only offer multi grade options for those in 2nd-4th and 5th-8th grade. Workshops are available for groups of 12 or more students.
Animal Adaptations - a hands-on experience to examine specimens from the museum collections and learn about camouflage, mimicry, and strategies that help animals survive. Includes a guided visit to the dioramas.
Impacts of Climate Change - use various types of data to better understand the ways changes in climate require animals to move, change, or go extinct. Includes a guided visit to World of Change and Dynamic Nature galleries.
Geologic Time - Build an understanding of changes to life on earth over long periods of time. Includes a guided visit to the Burke Hall of Dinosaurs.
(Coming in Spring) Rocks and Minerals - learn about changes in the Earth over geological time. Examine a diverse set of rocks, gems, and minerals from our collection. Includes a guided visit to David Friend Hall.
Materials for educators are currently unavailable for field trips. We are in the beginning stages of our programming. Stay tuned!
Yes, we have a designated lunchroom on the lower level of the museum. Our lunchroom is available by reservation in the field trip request form. Please note: Requesting a lunchroom does not guarantee a spot for your group. Our capacity is a maximum of 50 people per reservation.
