Behind-the-Scenes Collections Tours

From Anthropology to Zoology, the 13 million objects and specimens in the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History’s collections represent a world-class record of the history of Earth and its cultures.  In this tour led by Yale students you’ll visit two different curatorial divisions, learn how the collections are stored and organized, and glimpse some hidden treasures that rarely see the light of day. Alternating Tuesdays, spring and fall; registration required.

Tour of the Day

Join us for a Tour of the Day! These themed tours focus on specific Yale Peabody Museum exhibitions and are offered occasionally on weekends. Tours are led by enthusiastic Yale graduate students and other knowledgeable volunteers. You’ll learn fascinating information about familiar Peabody specimens. Free with regular admission. Meet in the Peabody lobby.

School & Group Visits: Guided Museum Tours

Led by experienced Peabody docents who will provide fascinating information about the Museum and its exhibits, these tours are approximately 1 hour in length and focus on many of the Museum's most notable and interesting specimens.   Maximum group size for these tours is 20, with a minimum group size of 10.  All group visits must be reserved at least two weeks in advance.

Highlights Tours: From Dinosaurs to Egypt

Tours are offered on a drop-in basis every Saturday, Sunday, and Thursday. The Highlights tour meets in the Museum’s main lobby and moves through the exhibition halls, stopping at our most exciting and popular displays. Through this tour visitors will gain insight into the history and science behind many of our most specatcular specimens.  Led by experienced volunteer docents and are offered at no charge with regular museum admission.
