Journal of Marine Research

The Journal of Marine Research, which has published papers vital to the academic oceanographic community for almost 80 years in the long and rich tradition of the Sears Foundation for Marine Research at Yale University, ceased publication as of December 31, 2021. The Journal is no longer accepting manuscript submissions, new subscriptions, or subscription renewals.

All published Journal of Marine Research articles will be made available as free downloadable PDF files. Please check back for updates.

The Journal of Marine Research published peer-reviewed original research on a broad array of topics in physical, biological, and chemical oceanography with a rich tradition and distinguished history going back to 1937. As one of the oldest journals in American marine science, the Journal of Marine Research has published important research in the ocean sciences.

Volume 1 (1937–1938) through Volume 40 (1982) are available below as free downloadable PDF files.

The full archive of articles from Volumes 1 (1937) through 79 (2021) will be available in March 2023 as free PDFs from the Yale University Library’s EliScholar digital platform.
