During the late Jurassic Period the most powerful predator in North America was Allosaurus fragilis. Allosaurus was an impressive three-ton, two-legged threat to every living thing—even the enormity of the contemporary Apatosaurus was likely no obstacle. This full-size replica, cast from a specimen at the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History, is of the ungual (last) bone of the middle finger of the left hand.
