Woodcut initial P from Euclid's ElementsSears Foundation for Marine Research

Fishes of the Western North Atlantic

During the 1930s, as director of Yale’s Bingham Oceanographic Laboratory, Albert E. Parr oversaw a growing and thriving institution dedicated to marine research. In 1937, through a gift from Henry Sears, Parr established the Sears Foundation for Marine Research to promote research and publication in marine sciences. The Foundation’s Journal of Marine Research and its Memoirs of the Sears Foundation of Marine Research, which includes the series Fishes of the Western North Atlantic, remain important references today.

The Yale Peabody Museum distributes the Fishes of the Western North Atlantic series.
