During the 1930s, as director of Yale’s Bingham Oceanographic Laboratory, Albert E. Parr oversaw a growing and thriving institution dedicated to marine research. In 1937, through a gift from Henry Sears, Parr established the Sears Foundation for Marine Research to promote research and publication in marine sciences.
The Foundation’s Journal of Marine Research and its Memoirs of the Sears Foundation for Marine Research, which includes the series Fishes of the Western North Atlantic, remain important references today.
from 1927 to 1967, the now out-of-print Bulletin of the
Bingham Oceanographic Collection ceased independent publication after
volume 19, article 2, and was incorporated into the Bulletin of
the Peabody Museum of Natural History.
