at the Yale Peabody Museum

An Annual Award for a Paper
on Evolution and the Fossil Record

Yale University graduate students and recent doctoral candidates are invited to submit a paper concerning evolution and the fossil record for consideration by the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History for the George Gaylord Simpson Prize.

The prize is named for George Gaylord Simpson (1902–1984; Yale Ph.D. ’26), the most influential paleontologist of the 20th century and a major proponent of the modern evolutionary synthesis.

Submissions must be either published or in press in a refereed journal. Graduate students in residence in a department at Yale, or past graduates no more than 5 years after receiving the doctorate, are eligible. Submissions of co-authored papers must be accompanied by a memorandum indicating the role of the submitting author in generating the research and the text, which may be supported by a letter from the applicant’s dissertation or postdoctoral advisor, as appropriate.

The Director of the Yale Peabody Museum will present the winner with a monetary prize at an awards luncheon held during May each year in the Yale Department of Geology & Geophysics.

Submission deadline will be announced in Spring 2009.
