Education:

1998 – 2001, Postdoctoral Associate, Washington State University

1998 – PhD, University of Gothenburg, Sweden

1982 – BSc, University Babeş-Bolyai, Romania

My interest in mineralogy dates back to my undergraduate years in my native Transylvania. After graduating I taught ore deposits geology for a few years at my alma mater. In the early 1990s I moved to South Africa for a research scientist position with the University of Natal (now University of KwaZulu-Natal) in Durban, before enrolling for graduate studies with the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. After earning my doctoral degree, I moved to the United States for a post-doctoral research position at Washington State University, after which I got immersed in radioisotope dating, first at Yale, then at the University of Arizona. My publication list includes more than 60 peer-reviewed papers, conference abstracts, book chapters and field trip guides.

Research interests:

- Silicate mineralogy of skarns

- Trace element and isotope geochemistry applied to mineral deposits

- U-Th/He thermochronology

- History of science

- 2013 Connecticut meteorites
