
The Division of Mineralogy oversees an historically important worldwide
collection of over 40,000 specimens, with 36 documented type specimens,
and other presumed type specimens needing further documentation. In addition,
the collection contains suites of material from localities that no longer exist,
early prospecting material, a collection of gemstones, and a sizeable collection
of Connecticut
minerals.

The
Yale Peabody Museum’s collections are available to legitimate researchers for
scholarly use. Loans are issued to responsible individuals at established
institutions. Loans and access to the collection can be arranged through the Collections
Manager.
