Current Research
Currrent research in the Division of Mineralogy includes the following:
Curator
Professor Jay J. Ague studies metamorphic rocks and their relationships to earthquakes and volcanoes, groundwater flow, economic mineral deposits, and processes that release and transport greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide through the earth’s crust. He has led or participated in geological research expeditions to several places around the globe, including New England, California and Washington State in the United Staes; British Columbia, Canada; Greece; Scotland; Spitsbergen, Norway; New Zealand; and Papua New Guinea. He is the author or coauthor of more than 100 scientific papers, invited book chapters, and conference abstracts.
Professor Ague has been a faculty member in the Department of Geology and Geophysics at Yale University since 1988. He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in geology from Wayne State University, and his Ph.D. in geology from the University of California at Berkeley.

The honorary titles of Curatorial Affiliate and Faculty Affiliate are given to individuals who give some of their time and expertise to the Division. Affiliates are appointed by a vote of the Board of Curators and typically serve a 5-year renewable term.
