Begun in 1807 with pieces of the first recorded fall of the New World — the Weston, Connecticut meteorite —  the Yale Peabody Museum meteorite collection is the oldest in the United States. Its thousands of specimens represent more than 400 different meteorite localities and nearly all of the various kinds of meteorites and tektites.

An account of the identification of the latest meteorite recovered in Connecticut, fallen on April 19, 2013, can be found here.

The Yale Peabody Museum’s collections are available to legitimate researchers for scholarly use. Loans are issued to responsible individuals at established institutions. Loans and access to the collection can be arranged through the curator.
